Wuzhiqi is a 9th-century Chinese deity who appears as a sibling of Sun Wukong in older Yuan dynasty stories. Many scholars consider Wuzhiqi to have provided a prototype for Sun Wukong, and the author of Journey to the West had certainly read of this deity.
