An 18th-century Russian Orthodox bishop and spiritual writer who was canonized as a saint by the Eastern Orthodox Church in 1861. He was revered for his energetic commitment to spiritual education and wellbeing of both laity and clergy in his diocese of Voronezh. After retiring to Zadonsk monastery due to ill health, he became a much-loved spiritual advisor and man of God, writing luminous books and treatises.
