Teucciztecatl is an Aztec deity who voluntarily sacrificed himself in order for Tonatiuh to rise. Teucciztecatl became the moon because of his hesitation before sacrificing himself. Following the sacrifices of Nanahuatl and Teucciztecatl in a great fire, Tonatiuh rose weakly.
