St. Catherine appeared in visions to Joan of Arc throughout her life, probably Catherine of Alexandria. She was known as a virgin saint who strove against powerful enemies, was tortured and martyred for her beliefs, and preserved her virtue to the death. Joan swore a vow of virginity to the voices of St. Catherine and St. Margaret.
