Simhamukha is an asura brother of Surapadma and Tarakasura who performed tapas to Shiva. Shiva granted them various weapons and a wish that they could only be killed by the son of Shiva, offering them near-immortality. They subsequently oppressed celestial beings and started a reign of tyranny in the three worlds.
