Me Phyu was originally a guardian spirit who resided on Mount Pyapon with her elder sister. She wished to experience human life and was reborn through virgin birth after vowing never to marry, but broke this vow. After her death, she was appointed guardian of Mount Pyapon and given the title Pyapon Shinma (Lady of Pyapon), with authority over the mountain.
