Liu Chenxiang is the son of Huayue Sanniang and the mortal Liu Xi, born through the reincarnation of Xianglong Luohan in his mother. At age seven, he sets out to find and rescue his mother who is imprisoned under Lotus Peak. He becomes the disciple of either Tieguai Li or Lü Dongbin depending on the version, grows into a youth, and successfully rescues his mother through mountain-splitting.
