Gĩkũyũ is the ancestral father of the Gĩkũyũ people, brought together with Mũmbi by the deity Ngai. He is part of the foundational ancestral couple from whom the Gĩkũyũ community originates. Together with Mũmbi, he is the parent of nine daughters who became the eponymous ancestors of the nine principal Gĩkũyũ clans.
