Baal Zephon (Hadad) is identified with the Egyptian god Horus in the Amherst Papyrus. He is considered the chief deity who resides on the mountain. In a 14th-century letter from the king of Ugarit to the Egyptian pharaoh, Baʿal Zaphon is placed as equivalent to Amun.
