Astronoë was a Phoenician goddess thought by many scholars to be a version of Astarte. She pursued the youth Eshmun with amorous intent so persistently that he castrated himself and died in desperation. She then named him Paeon 'Healer', restored him to life from the warmth of her body, and transformed him into a god.
