Wuriupranili is a solar goddess in Tiwi mythology, known as the Sun Woman who carries a stringybark torch that is the Sun itself. Each morning she wakes in the east, lights a small fire seen as dawn, and decorates herself with red ochre that stains the clouds and creates red sunrises. She travels across the sky daily from east to west, and at night returns to her eastern camp through a tunnel beneath the earth.
