Tui Tokelau is the primary god worshipped in Tokelau before the arrival of Christianity. He was personified by a monumental coral slab covered with beautiful mats in a house at the marae of Fakaofo atoll. The people of Tokelau assembled annually in May to pray for his protection and offer fish, coconuts, and pandanus drupes during a new year ceremony.
