Tiʻitiʻi Atalaga is a mythological figure in Samoan legend whose tales are very similar to those of the demigod Māui found in other island cultures. He succeeded in bringing fire to the people of Samoa after battling the earthquake god Mafuiʻe. During the battle, he broke off one of Mafuiʻe's arms and forced him to reveal how fire had been concealed by the gods in certain trees during the making of the world.
