The Old People

ancestor mountain pre-Russian single tradition · 1

The Old People are an ancient, pre-Russian and pre-Tatar group who lived in the mountains and forests near Mount Azov. They did not recognize the value of gold or gemstones, using them casually for children's play and hunting, and instead lived by hunting, beekeeping, and fishing. They had no permanent structures like houses or villages, dwelling instead in the hills and eventually hiding in a cave inside Mount Azov when threatened by Cossack invaders.
