A völva or shamanic seeress who was the mother of Sigurd the Stout, Norse Jarl of Orkney. She created a finely embroidered raven banner for her son and prophesied that it would bring victory to the man it was carried before, but death to whoever carried it. Her prediction came true when all bearers of the standard, including eventually her son, met untimely ends.
