Sigrdrífa
deity sky Norse single tradition · 1
Sigrdrífa is a valkyrie who was punished by Odin for disobeying him in battle. She had brought down the king Hjalmgunnar in battle despite Odin's promise of victory to him, and as consequence Odin pricked her with a sleeping-thorn and condemned her to marriage, though she swore never to wed a man who knew fear. She possesses wisdom of all worlds, including knowledge of inscribing runes, mystic wisdom, and prophecy, which she shares with the hero Sigurd.
