Sati Bhavani is another name for Shailaputri, the daughter of the mountain. In a previous birth, she was Sati, daughter of Daksha. She destroyed Daksha's sacrifice by stepping into the sacrificial fire, immolating herself after Daksha insulted her husband, Shiva.
