Saint Columba

human_specialist earth Irish single tradition · 1

Saint Columba was a monk who possessed the right of sanctuary as part of his religious status. He became involved in a conflict over a copied psalter around 560, which some traditions link to the Battle of Cúl Dreimhne in 561. After a synod threatened excommunication for deaths associated with the battle, he departed Ireland on pilgrimage to Scotland, though he returned several times to visit communities he had founded.
