Rawhead is a child-eating creature found in North American folktales. In Willis's account, a depiction of Rawhead appears by rolling down the stairs. Rawhead and the girl then exchange a series of interactions resembling the structure of Little Red Riding Hood, including the line that Rawhead's teeth are "to eat [her] up with."
