Raja Manu is regarded as the primordial progenitor and lawgiver in Hindu tradition, from whom the Solar dynasty (Suryavansha) descends. He is considered the first man and the author of the Manusmriti, a foundational legal text. As an ancestor of King Dasaratha and thus of Rama Chandra, Manu embodies the origins of kingship and righteous governance.
