Pushpadanta
demonic intermediate Hindu single tradition · 1
Pushpadanta was an attendant of Shiva who constantly quarrelled with another attendant named Malyavan. During one quarrel, he was cursed by Malyavan to become an elephant in his next birth, and he cursed Malyavan to become a spider. As an elephant in his next life, he collected water from the Kaveri River daily to perform abhishekam to the Appu Lingam, and was ultimately killed by the spider (Malyavan) who bit him from inside his trunk.
