The Proetids are three Argive princesses—Lysippe, Iphinoë, and Iphianassa—daughters of King Proetus and Queen Stheneboea (or Antea) of Argos. They were arrogant and vain, driven mad for disrespecting the gods, and roamed the countryside of the Argolid and Peloponnese in a frenzied state. They were eventually healed by the seer Melampus, who purified them.
