Perumal is a manifestation of Vishnu, accepted during syncretism of South Indian deities into mainstream Hinduism. Many poems of the Paripadal consider Perumal as a supreme god of Tamils. He is a popular Hindu deity among Tamils in Tamil Nadu, and in the Tamil diaspora.
