Pakaʻa is the god of the wind and the inventor of the sail in Hawaiian mythology. He was raised by his mother Laʻamaomao and her brother Maʻilou, believing Maʻilou to be his father until he questioned this due to his unusual height. He traveled with the king of Kauaʻi and later served under Keawenuiaumi, using the Gourd of Laʻamaomao to control the many winds of Hawaii.
