Pṛthu is the emperor of the world who chased Bhumi when she withdrew vegetation, causing starvation among his people. He pursued her relentlessly, even when she transformed into a cow. Eventually, Bhumi submitted to him and allowed him to milk her to restore nourishment to the living beings.
