ninunò

ancestor intermediate Filipino single tradition · 1

The ninunò (lit. "ancestor") can be the spirits of actual ancestors, cultural heroes, or generalized guardian spirits of a family. Pre-colonial Filipinos believed that upon death, the "free" soul of a person travels to a spirit world. Souls reunite with deceased relatives in the spirit world and lead normal lives in the spirit world as they did in the material world.
