Mboze is known as the Great Mother in Kongo oral tradition and is the mother of Bunzi. She possessed rain-bringing power which was inherited by her daughter Bunzi after Mboze was killed by her husband Kuitikuiti for her transgression of bearing a child with their son Makanga.
