Manodari was the wife of the Asura Darikan in Kerala folklore. When her husband was dying in battle with Bhadrakali, she performed intense penance to Lord Shiva at Kailasa and received his sweat as a boon. In anger at her husband's death, she cursed Bhadrakali with smallpox using the blessed sweat, but Bhadrakali pierced her eyes and transformed her into Vasoorimala, making her a companion.
