Madan was a demon who acquired Vak-siddhi, a power by which whatever he said came true. He misused this power to trouble humans and murder people, prompting the gods to beseech Bagalamukhi for help. The goddess grabbed his tongue and immobilized his power, and after he requested to be worshipped with her, she granted this boon before slaying him.
