Longwang, or "dragon king", is a term imported from India (Sanskrit naga-raja), via Buddhism, introduced during the Later Han. The dragon king cult was most active around the Sui-Tang dynasty, and spread farther afield with the backing of Song dynasty monarchs who built Dragon King Temples.
