Laumės are the very oldest goddesses of Lithuanian mythology. They could appear in the form of animals, as mares or as female goats, bears and dogs, or as women with the head or lower body of a female goat. Laumės were dangerous to both men and women, luring men and loving them until they collapsed from exhaustion, and after eating their bodies.
