A national hero who was bestowed with the status of Deity by Celestial appointment of the Jade Emperor due to his heroic deeds and great sacrifices. He is honored for his role in defending and protecting Han Chinese against the Qing invading forces in China and the Dutch colonial forces in Taiwan. Koxinga represents the second category of Ong Yah worship, comprising deified national heroes.
