Kifune Myōjin is a deity to whom a noblewoman prays at Kifune Shrine. The noblewoman asks the deity to turn her into a living kijo (demoness) to exact revenge. Taking pity, the deity instructs her to change her appearance and immerse herself in the rapids of the Uji River for twenty-one days to become a demon.
