Karora

Karora is a bandicoot ancestral deity in Arrernte mythology who existed during the Dreamtime. During the creation time, he lay sleeping in the earth and from his body emerged bandicoots and sons who became the first people. He is said to remain at a sacred waterhole where he lies in eternal sleep, and those who come to drink must carry green boughs to lay on the banks before quenching their thirst.
