John of the Cross was a person whose body parts became relics venerated by townspeople. He was initially buried at Úbeda, but his body was secretly moved to Segovia in 1593. Eventually, a compromise was reached where Úbeda received one leg and one arm of the corpse from Segovia, while the head and torso were retained by the monastery at Segovia.
