Ixquic is a maiden of the underworld who heard the story of the decapitated god Hun-Hunahpú and decided to visit him. She was miraculously impregnated by Hun-Hunahpú's severed head, which had become a tree, and later gave birth to the Maya Hero Twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque. She is depicted pregnant lying under the tree in Izapa Stela 10, dated around 300 BC.
