The ipilja-ipilja is a giant gecko deity in Anindilyakwa mythology, considered the creator of rain and thunder. He is about a hundred feet long, highly colored, and adorned with long hair and whiskers. At the beginning of monsoon season, he eats swamp grasses and drinks swamp water, then spews the mixture into the sky to create thunderstorms, with the water becoming clouds and the grass binding them together.
