Hinale (or Hinalea) was one of two informants who revealed the true nature of the lizard goddess Kalamainu'u to her lover Puna-ai-koa'e. When Kalamainu'u attempted to slay them, they turned into wrasse fish and escaped into cracks in the seafloor.
