The Dragon King of the East Sea is a powerful Chinese deity whose wrath caused catastrophic torrential rains and flooding that threatened to engulf ancient Beijing. According to legend, he demanded the sacrifice of a beautiful maiden to cease the disaster. His anger was appeased when Qingniang sacrificed herself, after which the rains stopped.
