Caapora is considered the masculine form of Caipora, according to Luís da Câmara Cascudo. The gender is said to have changed by vowel shift from a to i. João Barbosa Rodrigues claims that Kaapora is the localized name used in the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba and Ceará.
