Apolaki is a child of Bathala in Kampampangan mythology who quarreled with his sister Mayari over who would rule the world alone. He struck Mayari in the face with a bamboo club during their fight, blinding her in one eye, but then took pity on her and agreed to rule the earth together at different times. His light is brighter than his sister's due to her injury.
