Andrew was a fisherman and disciple of Jesus, and brother to Simon Peter. He was initially a disciple of John the Baptist, and is said to have recognized Jesus as the Messiah, introducing him to his brother. The Eastern Orthodox Church honors him with the name Protokletos, meaning "the first called."
