Amma is the supreme god in Dogon religion who created Nommo, the first living creature. When one pair of Nommo's twin offspring defied the order Amma established, the god sacrificed another creature, cutting up its body and scattering it throughout creation to restore order. A shrine for Amma was to be built at each place where a fragment of the sacrificed body landed.
