Abaris is a Scythian or Hyperborean priest and prophet of Apollo, said to have visited Greece around 770 BCE. He traveled throughout Greece living without food, riding a golden arrow given by Apollo, healing the sick, foretelling the future, working miracles, and delivering Sparta from a plague. Ancient authors such as Herodotus, Iamblichus, and Suidas mention him and attribute several works to him, including Scythian oracles and a prose theogony.
